As Eisenhower Lucy Curci Cancer Center strives to provide a healing place like no other®, we recognize that the process of diagnosing and providing treatment to a patient can often be confusing due to the numerous specialists that may be involved in a patient's diagnosis and treatment.

In addition to your medical specialist, below is a list of various cancer specialists that may be part of a cancer patient's health care team:

• Hematology/Oncology
  • A medical oncologist specializes in diagnosing and treating cancer using chemotherapy, hormonal therapy, biological therapy, and targeted therapy. The medical oncologist is often the main health care provider, coordinating with other specialists.
  • Hematologic oncology involves the diagnosis and treatment of blood cancers and blood-related disorders.
    
• Radiation Oncology
  A radiation oncologist is a physician who has had specialty training to treat cancer patients with various forms of radiation therapy.
  
  
• Breast Radiology
  Early intervention is key to effective breast cancer treatment and mammograms are among the best tools for early detection. Dedicated breast radiologists provide an accurate reading and interpretation of mammograms, Breast MRIs, Breast Specific Gamma Imaging (BSGI) and Contract Enhanced Spectral Mamagraphy (CESM). Studies have repeatedly shown that the best results came from diagnostic centers staffed with breast-imaging experts like our dedicated breast radiologists.
  
  
• Pathology
  A pathologist is a physician who examines tissues, checks the accuracy of lab tests, and interprets the results in order to facilitate the patient's diagnosis and treatment. He or she works closely with the patient's other doctors and is a vital member of the patient's primary health care team.
